What are the types of riser sleeve?

Considering the production method of riser sleeves, they are grouped into two main groups as wet or dry typeriser sleeve production. Riser sleeves can be placed inside the sand mold after or during molding.

What does riser sleeve do?

The riser sleeve prevents shrinkage that occurs while the casting is cooling. The riser sleeve with the desired chemical properties reacts chemically with the molten metal during casting, raising the temperature of the metal by 200ᵒC. Thanks to the caustic and flammable substances in its content, it provides combustion without the need for oxygen.

Riser sleeves avoid shrinkage just after casting while the part is cooling down. Sleeve gets into reaction with melt by burning and increases melt temperature to around 200ᵒC. Because of its caustic and flammable content, it needs no Oxygene for ignite. The sleeve is placed in the shrinkage area and avoids shrinkage when cooling down by controlling area temperature. They can be placed after of before molding and they are categorized as wet sleeve and dry sleeves.
